In an online social network, mostly the information of the user is processed. Although the service provides a personal experience, the property of the user, information is processed and shared.

In patient processes, the patient is the unit of analysis, and the process consists of a journey through several steps. Processes can also be described with a workstation or step as the unit of analysis. A workstation, such as a facility for plastering broken bones, receives a stream of patients, makes a setup to select and adjust the procedure, performs the step (processing), hands the patient over to the next step, and then receives the next patient, over and over again.
